TERMINAL | The Space Between Conference | Fremantle | 2004

The Idea
The artist is submerged a 12m x 2m x 1m Aqua Super tank filled with 17,000lts of brackish and heated to 16 degrees. Pell improvises five John Cage performance instructions including ‘Water Walk’ and ‘Water Music’. The audience viewed the work live tank-side and via broadcast to an internal screen system, and projection adjacent to the harbour waters. Performance series concluses after 01:45:00

Discussion
Ever wanted to know what transpires between an audience and a performer divided by glass and water? Is there any link to the way fish circle around and around thier bowls? I do not believe fish have short memories. I think they remember the exhileration and tranquility of an expansive body of water and they try and block out thier grief and humiliation...
